Part 3, for to: Call for Feedback
Everyone (free or paying subs), I'd love to hear some feedback!
We’ve come to the conclusion of part 3 of Quibble, “for to,” and as I did when part 2 ended, I’m putting out a call for feedback. It doesn’t matter whether your subscription is free or paid. Please click “Leave a comment,” below, if you’d like to tell me anything!
What sort of feedback? I’m game for anything! Tell me your reactions to how the story is developing, what occurs to you about the characters, or what you think of events or settings — really, whatever strikes your fancy.
Unlike previous parts of the novel, “for to” (chapters 13 through 17) narrates events in a single day. And that day isn’t over yet: its events will continue in part 4, “def fn,” and halfway into part 5, “read.” This one day changes everything for Quibble in a number of ways. Her relationships with Alnasl, Definition, and Vega all take big steps forward. She learns that what seemed like a harmless if troubling talent is in fact a dangerous curse. Along the way, she starts to see what’s at stake for not just herself but others — for the Ones, Zeros, and Dazed alike. It’s really a hell of a day to live through, and I’m keen to carry on with it!
In “Losing My Religion,” we trekked through territory in my life. I’ll follow this up, exclusively for paying subs, with a poem about a childhood experience featuring my grandfather, Clifton Gaither, whom the family called Pop. It touches on my first taste of apostasy. Then I’m leaving religion alone, likely for quite some time. This territory is emotionally fraught for me, and it won’t do to harp on it. But I hope you’ve gotten a lot out of the trek. I’m glad to hear your thoughts!
